Employment

What It’s All About:

Before anyone goes bungee jumping, an expert methodically fastens the participant to the cord. Well, one hopes.

As printing professionals, why would we approach our business any differently? We’re seeking a prepress pro who will treat our products with the same attention to detail, quality, and accuracy as a bungee jumping operator right before he shouts, “jump!” Or, in our case, “print!”

Here’s how to know if you’re the right fit:

  • You start your own engine. Unlike large print shops (but with the same major technology and tools), Villanti offers a self-motivated, growth-oriented specialist the opportunity to lead and take ownership of the prepress process from start to finish.
  • Color is your second language. You have an ultra-keen eye for and understanding of color management — from producing to interpreting, matching, and maintaining color across multiple platforms.
  • You’re a glutton for details. You confidently switch from evaluating job specifications and estimate details, to optimizing layout mechanical files based on specifications and quality criteria.
  • Your approach is a blend of art and science. You’ve mastered the Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat). And if you have hands-on experience with Kodak Prinergy and the mechanisms of offset and digital printing and finishing processes — from paper, imposition, and print and finish — even better.

Depending on the candidate, Villanti is open to multiple interpretations of this role:

  • Color specialists interested in learning prepress;
  • Graphic designers who want to learn about all aspects of the printing industry, as well as provide design services in-house;
  • Candidates with experience in large format (banners, posters, wraps, etc.); and
  • Production design specialists looking to extend their skills into the world of commercial printing prepress.

What You Will Do:

All functions from preparation to optimization will fall under your purview, including, but not limited to:

  • Reviewing client-supplied files to eliminate potential mechanical and color-specific problems
  • Accurately importing files into Prinergy prepress workflow software
  • Rebuilding, adjusting, and correcting design files based on job specifications, estimate details, and established procedures and practices
  • Communicating with the rest of the Villanti team to ensure budgets, timelines, equipment, supplies, and purchases are handled as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design, multimedia, or related (preferred, but not required)
  • Five or more years of experience in a prepress or design/production role
  • Extensive experience working with digital layout files; strong understanding of offset printing
  • Excellent ability to multitask and manage your time
  • Strong knowledge of design/layout/image editing software is essential, specifically:
    • Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat at an advanced level
    • Macintosh systems
    • Prinergy prepress workflow system (preferred)
    • Basic knowledge of Word, Excel, Pages, and Numbers programs
